Location
Belmont House (see website) is situated in the heart of Edale, a tranquil village at the foot of the Kinder plateau in the Peak District National Park. Edale marks the start of the first long distance trail, the Pennine Way, and has featured in a number of films and television programmes from “Charlie Bubbles” (Albert Finney 1967) to the current series “The Village” (Maxine Peake BBC 2014). The village is small - 300 inhabitants - but has a railway station with direct links to both Sheffield and Manchester, from which you can be in London in approximately two hours. It has two pubs, two cafes and a shop.
The Course
Courses take place on Monday to Thursday with participants arriving on Monday in time for an evening meal with the course tutor who will provide a general outline of the next few days and gain feedback on any specific hopes and aims. The course leader will run two to three workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday. These will be held in the Old Winery or outside depending on the course and the weather! There will be a detailed session on Thursday morning with guests departing after lunch. Small groups (6 to 10) and one to one tuition time ensure plenty of individual support. Visiting speakers will join the group for one or more evenings.
Food
The residential courses provide full board with a packed lunch on days out in the field. Special diets including gluten free are catered for and produce is sourced locally.
Typically guests help themselves to breakfast from a wide selection of cereals, fruit, croissants, bread with home made jams and marmalades; a cooked option can also be provided. Lunch is served in Belmont House, when not on an excursion, and includes hearty home made soups, salads, local cheeses and meats. A three course evening meal plus coffee is served each evening.
Alcohol is not provided; however guests are welcome to purchase locally or of course head to one of the local pubs. We may well join you!
